Energy Roles in The Lost Hero

The book I just read is called The Lost Hero by Rick Riordan. The main characters are Jason, Piper, and Leo. This story is about how Jason, Piper, and Leo learn they are demi gods and they are sent on a quest. As demi-gods they are half god, half human. Jason and Leo are omnivores since they eat meat and plants. Piper is a vegetarian which means she's a herbivore. They meet many bizarre creatures, in this story, as they try to complete their quest.

At one point, two of them end up dangling from chains, roasting over a fire as a family of carnivores are waiting for their food, Piper and Jason, to cook. They are Cyclops. In the beginning of the book, their coach is a Satyr so he eats plants and he is a herbivore. The ogres are carnivores and Enceladus, the giant is a carnivore also. Gaea is the greek personification of earth and is a carnivore. The Hunters of Artemis are Omnivores. This book is an amazing book and as you can see, the characters fill the roles that we learned about in an ecosystem.

Predator and Prey

This is a red robin. I found it flying around in my neighborhood. This robin is an example of prey and predator because it is both. It is a prey because a wolf, an alligator, and a snake can all attack and eat a robin. This robin can be a predator too because it can eat worms and bugs.

Abiotic Limiting Factor

This abiotic limiting factor is a heart shaped rock but it's also surrounded by grass which is biotic. I found it in my community. The rock is a limiting factor because it is effecting the grass by squishing it and rocks just take up space. Also, if the rock doesn't get moved by somebody, then the patch of grass that it is lying on won't get sunlight. If the grass doesn't get sunlight then it will die. The rock is abiotic because it is not living.

The Aquarium

On Friday, we went to the aquarium. I had a great time. First, we went through the shark area and saw some cnidarians. We saw jellyfish swimming and some coral reefs too. Then, we finally got to the sharks. In the tunnel, we saw sharks swim over and around us. It was so cool. My group got to the hippos and it smelled SO bad. It smelled like poop. The sign said that birds poop every fifteen minutes. Isn't that crazy? There was also seals, penguins, and piranhas. I thought piranhas would have big sharp teeth and be really scary but they weren't. That surprised me. There were all types of different sharks and fish too. There were areas were you could touch animals but we didn't have enough time to do that. Still, I had so much fun! I can't wait till we go on another field trip!

I bet you didn't know this about coffee!!!!

Coffee can be bad for you but good for you at the same time. People can get most of their antioxidants from drinking coffee. Plus, since coffee has caffeine in it, it can keep you up if you drink it late at night. So, drink coffee six hours before you go to bed at the latest. Decaf coffee has chemicals in it and coffee was discovered by goats! Caffeine can kill you if you drink around 90 cups in one time! Two cups of coffee can cut post-gym muscle pain. Also, Decaf coffee has caffeine in it since if you drank five to ten cups of coffee, you would get the same amount of caffeine from drinking one cup. In conclusion, coffee is bad but good at the same time. Just don't drink a lot of coffee in one day and you'll be fine.

Math: Research

The earth is heating up at a rapid pace. The earth has warmed in the past 150 years. Global warming is driving fifteen - thirty-seven percent of all animals and plant species to extinction. The earth without greenhouse gasses would be thirty-three decreases Celsius less than it is now. 2000-2009 is the warmest decade in history, which was nine years. 2009 was the 5Th warmest year on record. Global Warming is negatively, effecting the entire world.

Class Work: Symmetry

In class, we learned about Radial Symmetry and Bilateral Symmetry. Bilateral Symmetry is when there is only one line of symmetry in the animal or plant. For example, a frog is one living thing that is can be classified under bilateral symmetry. Animals that have bilateral symmetry have a distinct front with senses and also, to have bilateral symmetry, you have a mirror image on the other side. Plus, you move quickly since you have senses.

Did you know that animals move more slowly when they have radial symmetry? Well, they do. To have radial symmetry, you have many lines of symmetry. Unlike animals with bilateral symmetry, they don't have a distinct front. An example of a living thing that has radial symmetry is a sea star.

What animals with Radial and Bilateral symmetry both have is that the animals both have a balanced arrangement of parts. They also both perform all basic functions of life.

Some animals that have bilateral symmetry are an ant and a beaver. They both have only one line of symmetry. A plant that has radial symmetry is a sea urchin since it has many lines of symmetry. One living thing that has no symmetry is a sponge. In conclusion, animals and plants can have radial, or bilateral symmetry, or even no symmetry, depending on the living thing.
